Know the fundamentals and advantages of Soil Injection Foundation Repair

Foundation repair covers many systems, one of which is soil injection foundation repair. Consider this alternative which can be more cost-effective. It is both a landscape friendly and an environmentally safe process.

Non-toxic, water-soluble chemicals used include potassium ions and ammonium salts. To be on the safe side, ask your contractor what kinds of chemicals they are using. Check to see how environmentally friendly they are.

When to use Soil Injection Foundation Repair

Foundation problems begin when soils under foundations shift. They either swell up with water or shrink as they lose water content. Soil injection foundation repair (chemical injection) addresses these changes. It helps reduce or end how much the soil shrinks and swells from water changes.

Do you see a small area of your foundation moving? Soil injection is perfect for these situations. It is for local movement:

  • When uplift is less than 1.5 inches.
  • When the lift is less than 10 feet toward the interior of the building.

ITEM of NOTE: Soil Injection does not remove the upheaval. It does stop the lift from increasing and/or spreading.

Soil Injection Process

Very little equipment is needed, and everything is on one truck

  • 2 tanks containing the chemicals
  • Pumps
  • Hoses and reels
  • Injection wand

Generally, injections happen around the perimeter of a foundation. Driveways, patios, decks, or other paved surfaces get a different application. Technicians drill small holes, 3/4 inch diameter holes, through the paving. This allows injected chemicals to reach the underlying soils.

Workers use high pressure through wands, driving liquid into the soil. Injecting about half a gallon to a gallon of liquid treats a cubic foot of soil.

Two people work together. One monitors the process on a gauge, keeping track of the volumes injected. The second person drives the wand down into the ground, injecting the chemicals into the soil. The best results come from a two-day treatment.

Soil Injection Foundation Repair Final Results

It is a neat process, leaving hardly any trace of where the work happened. When the next drought or a storm passes through, you should see little, if any, change. Does this sound like it might fit your foundation repair needs? Contact us to get more information and to set up an appointment.
